Your Physical Checklist To Inspect A Cargo Container For Sale.
When you’re investing in a cargo container, you need to ensure you are getting your money’s worth. So, be sure to check for the following:
- Major rust. If the container you are interested in is second-hand, you should anticipate finding some surface rust. However, take time to properly inspect it for deeper areas of rust, and if you are unsure of its extent, tap on the rusted area with a hammer to see if it flakes and breaks away.
- Holes. Depending on what you plan on using the container for, a few holes may not be such a big deal. For instance, if the holes coincide with an area you plan to cut away, it shouldn’t make a difference in your purchase decision. However, holes in the roof and floor may be more of a deterring factor. To check for holes in the roof or foundation, stand inside the container with the doors closed and see if any light shines through.
- Doors and locks. If you plan to use the container for storage, then ensuring the doors and locks function properly is essential. The doors should open all the way and close without leaving gaps. In addition, the bottom of the doors are susceptible to rust, so give that area a good look as well. Finally, the locks should latch properly and be free of excessive rust.
- The floor. No matter the intended use, the floor is the container’s foundation. If it is severely damaged, it compromises the safety and durability of your investment. Be on the lookout for deep gouges, holes, rust or delamination.
